If you spend half of your day just scrolling through your Insta-feed, you are an Instaholic, my friend. In an era where people spend most of their daily hours on social media, I know the struggle of maintaining a good Instagram profile. Whether it’s your stories or your posts, everyone wants it to be of top-notch. Want to have some decent number of likes on your Insta-selfie but man, struggling to get that perfect Insta-click? Oh well, struggle of most of us these days. Ugh!
Scrolling through your feed and thinking about how those Insta models get that their perfect click? Well, there is no big secret behind it! There are small things that you got to keep in mind before and after taking a click.
1. A Proper Light Source is Everything
The first and very obvious rule of taking a flawless Insta-pic is to pay attention to your lighting. You need good lighting for that perfect click. Natural lighting. Light is undoubtedly the best beauty product you can play with and you don’t have to pay for it. When you scout out the right pic-taking spot, choose a location with bright, flattering and natural light.
Lighting might not seem like the most important thing when you’re first figuring out how to take a good selfie! But trust me, great lighting is just as important as good selfie poses. Looking for another useful tip? Another thing I do and you can try is taking a piece of white paper and hold it underneath my chin, which creates a natural bounce of light and illuminates the face. Also, look straight toward the light source to avoid weird or unflattering shadows.
2. Play With Your Angles
If there’s one piece of advice we all can take from Kardashian, it’s this: When it comes to selfies, keep your chin down and the camera up. There are about three or four people in the world who look good when shot from under their chin, and we haven’t met any of them. While taking a selfie, hold the phone so that the bottom of it is level with your eyes. Or even better, use a selfie stick. They’re absurd in every way except one because you hold them up high they make everyone look svelte and supermodel-y in photos.
Furthermore, you probably shouldn’t stare directly into the camera. Most people don’t look at their best straight-on. Turn to the side a little bit but not to the point where it’s a full-on profile, but just slightly and you are good to go.
3. Use Strong Shapes, Color, and Lines
A dish can have a beautiful blend of flavors but if it doesn’t look mouth-watering no one gets attracted to it. Same goes for your pic, your Instagram photos must have defined lines, shapes, and strong colors to stand out from other photos. Always choose and focus on one element that will appear large and will stand out in your frame. This is the best way to draw the attention of your viewers towards your photos.
Try to communicate emotion through your photos. If you are an amateur photographer like me, it will take some time to figure out how to capture emotional shots, but keep on practicing. Even if you are not an editing expert, this will help you get a perfect Instagram shot.
4. Always Use a Grid Reference
Try to successfully arrange all the elements of the picture to have a perfect Instagram pic. When you turn on the grid feature, it helps you to flawlessly align all the elements of the picture seamlessly. When your grid feature is on, it improves the composition of your pictures. Regardless of the type of photography, the grid feature can really enhance the overall impact of your picture.
For example, you can center your photo, but still, you can also achieve a pleasing effect with “balanced asymmetry”, where the subject is off-center but balanced out by another object. You must very thoughtfully observe the overlapping elements on your phone screen and find the exact midpoint of the picture. Take the photo once you successfully find out the center of it and voila!

5. Use Editing Apps and Filters to Get That Desired Result
if you want to have a perfect Instagram pic, Instagram edits alone are just not enough to get that one perfect Instagram worthy pic. Who cares if you are a professional photographer or an editing expert or not, you can always use third-party apps and tools to get the desired effect on your pictures. These tools are like a savior; they help you to enhance the look, quality, and the overall impact of your picture. You can try free apps or you can also keep shopping around for the right tools to figure out what works best for you and what meets your requirements.
I have a soft spot for the Slumber [Instagram] filter. It’s the dreamiest of all filters and it makes everyone look gorgeous. Beside it, I also recommend the Afterlight app for editing camera-phone photos. There’s no shame in editing your photo before posting it to Instagram. Don’t something in your background? Blur them away! Want to add some cool and funky images? Go for it.
6. Keep a Check on Minor Edits
Many times, we all tend to over-edit our pictures. But what we don’t understand is over-editing can make our photo unappealing. When you do the basic editing carefully, it can significantly enhance the shot. Even though these are basic edits, overdoing them can drastically impact your whole image quality. It becomes very unattractive and loses its natural look and no one wants that!
Usually, I play around with the contrast, shadows, warmth, and highlights and finalize what works best for me. Remember to conservatively use these minor and basic edits for a great Insta-pic. Drag the slider to select edits of your choice and make adjustments according to what is working best for that click.
When posting the perfect picture, try to add fascinating and engaging hashtags. Assure to post pictures with engaging captions, which can trigger conversations with your followers. In the end, you will find a perfect Instagram pic.
