And you can take that from me since I am a proud Assamese, born and brought up in the laps of the mighty Brahmaputra, surrounded by the evergreen tea gardens and the beautiful Kaziranga. There are still people who ask us if we are foreigners when we tell them our hometown in Assam. Learn your geography, guys! And yes, when we say we are from Assam, stop picturing us growing up in the middle of a forest, or having momos for dinner. Yes, Assam is known for its beautiful natural sites, and its amazing wildlife, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have towns and cities, or that we live in huts. Guwahati is the largest city in the Northeastern state of Assam and has a population of around 10 lakh. It is one of the fastest-growing cities of India today and is the second-largest metropolis in eastern India after Kolkata. Guwahati is famous for its beautiful temples and hills, alongside the mesmerizing Brahmaputra River.

1. 65th Amazon Filmfare Awards-

Yes! It’s in Guwahati this time. The Filmfare ceremony is India’s most extravagant and glamorous film event. It was first introduced in 1954, and this year will be its 65th time. It is one of the oldest ceremonies of the Indian Film Industry and honors artistic and technical excellence in the same.
Guwahati is all set to host the beautiful event, on 15th February 2020. This is huge since it’s the first time in six decades that the Filmfare Awards has stepped out of Mumbai. The show will be held in the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Guwahati. Bookmyshow has released tickets for the event starting at Rs.1000, and are being sold at a very fast rate. People are definitely excited for the event, and we can’t blame them, because this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to witness their Bollywood favorites live in front of them, unlike seeing them on screens!
2. The Neon Tattoo Festival-
21st-23rd February 2020
A three day event, happening for the first time in Guwahati, which is basically a shoutout to all tattoo artists, art and fashion lovers, foodies, etc, and bringing them together to experience the biggest tattoo convention of the North East. The event will be held in Shilpgram, Guwahati, on 21st–23rd of this month. Many renowned artists of the North East have shown interest in the event and have given confirmations of their presence. Renowned tattoo artist Alex Shimray, who is from North East itself, and is known for his phenomenal colorwork, is attending the event as a guest artist, along with many other artists like Prakash Tamang, Kushal Das, Diljeet Singh Bhamra, to name a few, will be tattooing at this event, which is one of the biggest tattoo conventions of India so far. To spend the night in the wilderness, with a bonfire, group of friends, good music, food, and alcohol, along with some of India’s best tattoo artists, would surely be a memorable event.
3. Yuvaan 2020
21st-23rd March 2020-
Yuvaan is the 3-day annual sports and cultural fest of the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Guwahati, which has recently revealed its dates for this year, which are 21st –23rd March. The theme for the exciting event this year is “The Magical Maze”, which was revealed last month, and has raised a lot of expectations. The artist line up for this year has not been updated yet, but the hopes are high since Yuvaan has never failed to impress us! The various events that they conduct dance, music, fashion shows, etc, and also various brain teasers, quizzes, debates, poetries, etc. Altogether, it is one of the best college fests in the region and people wouldn’t even dream of missing it by any chance!
4. Brahmaputra Eco-Fest 2020-
25th March -31st March-
The Brahmaputra Festival is an annual event, held in Guwahati, on the serene beaches of the mighty Brahmaputra. Every year, it is held usually in the month of January, but this time, due to the present scenario in Assam regarding the protests against CAA, the celebration has been delayed till March 25th to 31st, 2020. The event’s main aim is to promote the culture and crafts of Assam and to popularize its traditional sports. The fest has events like beach volleyball, beach cricket, ice skating, canoeing, windsurfing, water rafting, kayaking and also aero sports like ballooning, paragliding and hand gliding. Traditional games like elephant races, egg breaking, etc. are also conducted. Altogether, it’s a fun open-air annual festival which cannot be missed at any cost!
5. Guwahati Marathon 2020-
1st March 2020-
The Guwahati Marathon is an initiative taken by Asmakam Foundation, to bring back some peace to the lives of the devastated flood sufferers. Every year, millions of people of Assam are affected by the floods and erosion of riverbanks. This marathon is basically a fundraiser for the flood and erosion affected. It is a maiden night marathon that will be participated in my many international marathoners from all over the world. They will be sprinting through many beautiful sites of the city. The event also promotes fitness and the importance of a healthy lifestyle. It is an annual event, and since the motive behind it is such a needed one, people seldom miss it and show up in huge numbers every year. This year, it starts on 1st March, at 5:30 pm.
