Planning for your next big travel adventure? Travelling is always a fun thing to do but what I find most tedious is to pack and unpack. But packing without missing out anything is such an obvious thing. Even if you are a scrupulous list-maker, still you manage to forget something every time rather we all do, right?
I love traveling but there is no trip where I haven’t forgotten to bring toothpaste, or a portable charger, or maybe something else. Never! To be honest, packing makes me jittery. But these all experiences made me realize that there are some travel essentials without which I know I can’t travel with ease. Whether it’s your first trip or you are a big vagabond, having a list of all your travel essentials can solve your great fuzz.
When considering what to pack for the next adventure, jot down these travel essentials to make your trip more comfortable. No matter where you are headed these travel essentials will always find their way to be in your bag.
1. Universal Travel Adapter and Power Bank
Mobile phones have become a necessity for everyone. While you are traveling you don’t want to ruin your trip with low battery, right? To avoid such cases power banks come in handy. Also, make sure to take a universal travel adapter with you. Yes, travel adapter is a must if you are traveling abroad because power sockets might not be similar to that of India. In that case, a good universal adapter will become your gadget’s savior.
I don’t carry many gadgets but still, I carry my smartphone with me. Beside it, two things that are an absolute must for me while traveling are universal adapter and power bank. During my trip to Rishikesh, my phone battery died and I didn’t have any facility to charge my phone. After that trip power bank became an absolute must for me. Now I know at such time, a power bank will always save my day.
2. Packing Cubes
Recently in trend and also my absolute favorite, packing cubes have made my packing so easy and a lot more organized. Yes, packing cubes. These cubes are great organizers and use every bit of your luggage efficiently. These cubes have various sizes available so that it can fit in your luggage efficiently.
These packing cubes are my lifesaver as I travel with a lot of items and they help me to segregate out the things easily. All my things are just so nicely organized and easy to grab and the whole credit goes to these packing cubes.
They might seem superfluous to the untrained eye but trust if you packing skills as worst like me or maybe near to it, these packing cubes are going out help you out a lot.
Traveling is fun but also challenging at the same time. While traveling you might travel with local transport, or there may be sometimes when you can’t look after your luggage, or you might end up sharing accommodations. So, it’s important to take care of your belongings and having a padlock is a simple and easiest way to do it.
People learn from their mistakes and I also did. Earlier, I didn’t use any lock while traveling but now I always make sure to lock my backpack and luggage just to avoid any mishappenings. A combination lock always comes in handy when I have to leave my luggage behind.
4. Swiss Knife
If you are a solo traveler like me, the swiss knife is really useful in case of any emergencies. If you love to go on trekking, the swiss knife is the icing on the cake as it eliminates the need to use many things.
This multipurpose tool comes with a set of a knife, can opener, corkscrew, scissors, screwdriver, bottle opener and nail filer making it quite useful for travelers. It comes handy for your safety because who knows when you might need it for self-defense too.
But if you are traveling by flight, remember to put a swiss knife in the check-in bag and not in the travel bag.
Utilities, these small and trivial items are generally hard to remember while packing for us but are extremely useful and cannot be missed. Starting with your skin’s bae, Sunscreen, if you love your skin and want to have beautiful tan free pictures till the end of your journey, please make sure to pack one. Next to sunscreen is a Mosquito Repellent, if you want to avoid illness and diseases related to them, don’t forget to keep one in your bag.
Also, don’t forget to keep a needle and a thread in a small pouch with some extra safety pins. Trust me, these things come quite in handy during any fashion emergency.
6. Clothing and Footwear
Instead of choosing to keep whatever you like at the moment make a mental plan based on your destination and then choose your clothing. I suggest you should carry comfortable clothes preferably cotton as you will be on the move most of the time and the last thing you want is, to struggle with your outfit.
Based on what you’d be wearing while on your vacation, you can add in an extra outfit or two just in case. But don’t add much as anything more than that will only make your bags heavy. And, the same goes for comfortable footwear for walking and light accessories. Pack only what you are really going to use, and not everything that you have.
7. Waterproof/ Zip Lock Bags
My friends always ask this question to me that, why I always travel with lots of zip lock bags? To be honest, my packing rituals start with grabbing lots of zip lock bags. These bags help you to keep things organized and easy to access.
There are some liquids or sprays that you can’t place in your carryon. So, securing them in zip lock bags provides insurance they won’t leak all over your belongings. I made the mistake of bringing along a bottle of moisturizer with a tilted cap. Never again! But as I made sure to zip lock it so it didn’t spill over, otherwise, it would have caused a disaster.
Not only this, these zip lock bags come in handy for storing food and leftovers also.
8. First Aid Kit
No one wants to get sick while traveling so you should always carry a first aid kit with you to avoid such situations. We can’t be prepared for any unexpected illness but we can always be prepared for some common illness. Having a first aid kit will always be useful not just to you but to anyone around you.
I never want to fall ill during my trip but during my trip to Coorg, I suffered from fever and that’s when first aid kit came in handy to me. If you consume any prescribed medicine do make sure to carry it and your prescription along with you because you might not find your medicines everywhere. First aid kit makes you more prepared during your trip to any remote destination.
9. Copy of Your Personal Documents
Carrying your personal documents while traveling can be really useful while taking accommodations or during security checks. Do not forget to keep your documents intact in any zip lock bags as you can’t afford to lose them anyway.
While traveling, there were so many incidents when I needed my documents. Many hotels demand to show your documents while checking in so you got to make sure to pack safely in your luggage.
If you don’t want to carry your documents with you, you can use DigiLocker to access your documents anytime anywhere.
Make sure to carry some cash because you can’t rely on ATM cards or online banking system if you are traveling to any remote area. Also most of the time due to lack of network you can’t access these platforms.
Even after digitalization still, there are places where people don’t use these online banking systems. Also, finding an ATM in such places is difficult. The local shops or vendors might not also accept ATM cards so make sure to carry enough cash to avoid such situations. Make sure to secure your cash to avoid any mishappening.
All this might look like a lot to remember but it will make your journey less stressful and a lot more beautiful.
